16.04.12. PayPal to go offline for 2 hours on 19th April 2012

PayPal are set to undergo a planned maintenance cycle to upgrade their services and will happen between 4am and 6am.

This meaning if you a buyer or seller you will not be able to access your PayPal account during the downtown. If you offer PayPal as a payment gateway on your website or using the PayPal Api for an app its likely it will simply time out or a error message will appear.

With PayPal being a worldwide payment gate way no matter what the schedule will happen  with some countries experiencing the outage during the day when shopping online is at its peak.

Once the system update is complete business should be up and running again as normal, but rest assured during the update all funds will be secured as usual by PayPal’s powerful security and fraud protection

PayPal will continually make improvements to help the system and platform and help 100 million customers and launch innovative new products and services to create the future of money.

PayPal’s Anuj Nayar, senior director of PayPal Global Corporate Communications has said

“We wanted to let you know in advance so you can make plans to accommodate the downtime, and we appreciate your patience as we work to improve PayPal.”

16.08.10. PayPal Payments Soon Android-integrated?

eBay’s PayPal is currently in talks with Google about adding its payment service to Android devices, Bloomberg reported.

If discussions go well, the service could be available on smartphones with Google’s software by the end of this year.

Android app purchases are currently made by using a credit card or Goole’s own competitor to PayPal, Google Checkout. PayPal is available already as an application for accepting and making mobile payments on several mobile platforms, including Android. The description of PayPal for mobile sounds like it would work in a more integrated fashion on Android, similar to how the iTunes Store works on Apple’s iOS devices.

So far, both Google and PayPal have declined to comment.

02.08.10. Good News For Indian PayPal Users

PayPal users in India had some good news at the weekend.

PayPal announced that it has resumed electronic money withdrawals and once again users don’t have to rely on cheque payments to receive their funds into their bank accounts. This will no doubt be a big relief to Indian users.

PayPal has also promised to honour refunds of cheque withdrawal fees until further notice.

29.07.10. PayPal Attempting To Expand Its Payment Service Into Japan

Online payments firm PayPal is preparing to expand into Japan without the branding help of its partner company eBay.

Currently, PayPal counts over 87 million accounts worldwide, but does not have a large presence in Japan, which is the second-largest consumer market in the world.

Andrew Pipolo, head of PayPal in Japan, said: “We’re very, very new, we have a very small share of the market, so we still see great opportunities for Japan.”

PayPal will be looking to sign individual deals with retailers and other partners. eBay essentially conceded the auction market to Yahoo Japan when it withdrew from the country in 2002.

28.07.10. PayPal Suspend Electronic Transfers In India

Following the temporary suspension of its services earlier this year, in a move to satisfy regulatory authorities in India, PayPal have suspended electronic transfers to local banks in the country.

PayPal say that they are working to restore electronic transfers and meanwhile they will be waiving the $5 cheque withdrawal fees as of 29th July.

22.07.10. eBay Announces 26% Rise In Profits

The eBay forum has reported a 26% rise in profits for the last three months thanks largely to increased use of its PayPal service.

eBay announced total profits for the quarter totaled $412m (£272m), which is up from $327m a year ago.

Highlighting its reliance on international growth, sales were up 20% internationally but only rose 2% in the US.

eBay’s online payments business, including PayPal, saw revenues rise by 22%.

John Donahoe, eBay’s chief executive said in a conference call to investors: “We are not satisfied with our US results.”

Donahoe said the strengthening dollar was also a concern as it reduces the value of sales made abroad.

eBay also cut its profit forecast for the year in the expectation that the dollar will strengthen further against international currencies.

29.06.10. PayPal Report Predicts Online Sales Increase

A recent study has noted that we could see a 36% increase in online retail sales over the next 18 months.

The study, which is the second annual PayPal Online Retail Report, said eCommerce could grow by more than a third compared with in-store sales which would rise by 1%.

Conducted by Experian, the study revealed that shoppers might visit an eCommerce website in order to save money, rather than go to town and purchase things.

Customers are turning to buying online because they are looking to be ‘thrifty’ despite the economic downfall according to the managing director of PayPal UK, Carl Scheible.

Scheible said: “Two thirds of online shoppers are now convinced their money goes further online compared to less than half who believed it last year, an increase of 8.5 million people.”

The results of this study follow on from Richard Dodd, head of media and campaigns at the British Retail Consortium, who recently declared that the forthcoming VAT increase might lead to rise in eCommerce sales before it is implemented in January 2011.

18.06.10. eBay & PayPal To Fight Fraud

The eBay forum is joining forces with Microsoft and several other organisations to create a blacklist of fraudulently obtained log-in details for online services or compromised credit card numbers.

PayPal is another member to sign up for the service that went live today. It will allow investigators to inform banks more quickly of any dodgy dealings e.g. a dodgy card use.

Before this service, if security researchers uncovered a phishing attack then informing all the different institutions could have taken days.

The new Internet Fraud Alert makes clear that it will not offer help for customers, and anyone in need of help should contact their bank or the institution that holds their account.

With Goofbayers using our eBay tools and auction sniper to buy products, this news will be greatly with open arms as online shopping gets set to become more secure.

03.06.10. PayPal Announcement

PayPal UK has announced that all purchases made through them off-eBay will now have the same levels of protection as those that take place on the auction website.

This announcement means that ‘significantly not as described’ claims will be allowed for off-eBay purchases. Prior to this change, buyers using PayPal off-eBay had limited protection in transactions which covered them only for non-receipt but not for ‘significantly not as described’ claims.

The news from PayPal is good for you users of our eBay Sniper Goofbay, as it allows you to buy in confidence giving you further protection when snapping up some eBay bargains.

Speaking after the announcement was made, PayPal UK’s MD, Carl Scheible, said: “Over half of all PayPal payments by value are now made on non-eBay websites, so we’re pleased to respond to calls from customers and consumer groups to strengthen buyer protection for non-eBay purchases.”

In the past, a lot of sellers had complained claiming that PayPal ‘side with the buyer’ but the news of this announcement will give online shoppers a lot more confidence that they will be left satisfied with their transaction.

PayPal were also keen to point out though that buyer protection does not stretch to cover intangible good services, customer made items, airline flight tickets, eBay classified advertisements and items prohibited under eBay’s acceptable use policy. Items that are paid for fully in one single transaction using PayPal will be covered.
