28.04.12. Diamond Jubilee Medals Sold on eBay

eBay is being flooded with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medals, just days after the Queen awarded them to frontline services as a personal thank you.

The limited edition medals were given out to members of the Forces, the Royal Household, Emergency Services personnel, prison officers and holders of the Victoria Cross and George Cross.

Many people, however, have been cashing in on these special mementos from the Queen by listing them on eBay.  Some listings have included comments such as; “Genuine full-sized medal issued to me” and “Issued this week in a very nice presentation box.”

Former Chief Superintendent Geoff Ogden who once led Humberside CID fumed;

“I’m appalled by it and I think 99.9 per cent of officers will be appalled by it. If I was still serving I would use disciplinary procedures to deal with this matter.”

The medals are being listed for sale, with prices starting from £50 and the final sale being nearly double or more.

One member of the Metropolitan Police said; “It is very disappointing to think that some of those so honoured have decided to take this action.”

30.09.10. Ronnie Wood Guitar Hits eBay For £10,000

A guitar once owned by Ronnie Wood has landed on eBay after the guitarist fell out with his ex-brother-in-law Paul Karslake.

The signed ’54 Anniversary Custom Fender Stratocaster, which was built in 2004 for the Rolling Stone, has appeared on eBay with a reserve price of £10,000.

The guitar, which was signed “Smoke this! Ronnie Wood ‘07”, was presented to Karslake in 2007 before the end of Wood’s 23 year marriage to Karslake’s sister Jo Wood.

Since the split, the guitarist and his brother-in-law have ended their friendship, with Karslake (an artist by  trade) portraying Wood as a vampire sucking his sister’s blood in a painting last year.

The artist, it appears, has now decided to rid himself of some of his Wood-related memorabilia and the Essex Echo is reporting that Karslake asked his friend, Alan Jones, to ‘eBay’ the item for him.
